Winchester, Va. - (5/10/2024) - #4 Gwynedd Mercy University (14-26) met #2 Cabrini University (23-11) at Shenandoah University's Bridgeforth Stadium for the first elimination game of the 2024 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Baseball Championship Tournament. The Cavaliers scored a run in the bottom of the first inning (1-0) and another in the third (2-0) before pulling away from the Griffins in a 13-0 final. The Red and Gold totaled seven hits with junior first baseman Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.) serving as the only Griffin to record multiple hits (2-for-4) in the affair. Junior pitcher Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) threw 5.2 innings and struck out three in the loss (2-8).

Griffin Highlights

• Gwynedd Mercy University had runners in scoring position in the first, second, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, but could not find a timely hit to drive any runs home.
• The Griffins loaded the bases in two of those frames; Root, Templeton, and sophomore right fielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) filled the bags in the fifth inning and senior left fielder Quin Dye (Conshohocken, Pa.), senior catcher Nick Price (Levittown, Pa.), and Root populated the bases in the sixth inning, but a grounder to second and a fly to center fielder, respectively ended the scoring chances.
• In addition to Templeton, Root (1-for-4), Junker (1-for-3), freshman shortstop Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.) (1-for-4), and freshman third baseman Ryan Horner (Cinnaminson, N.J.) (1-for-4), and Price (1-for-3) each recorded hits.
• Senior pitchers, Mitchell Bramsway (Temecula, Calif.) (1.1 innings) and Joe Golden (Churchville, Pa.) (1.0) combined for the final 2.1 innings.

Gwynedd Mercy University finishes the 2024 season 14-26 overall and 7-11 in the AEC.
