Griffins Celebrate Seniors, Split with Knights in AEC Season Finale

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (5/4/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (14-24, 7-11) welcomed Neumann University (15-22, 3-15) to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Baseball Field for today's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) and regular season finale. The Red and Gold recognized seven seniors - Mitchell Bramsway (Temecula, Calif.), pitcher Giovanni D'Amore (Ambler, Pa.), outfielder Quin Dye (Conshohocken, Pa.), pitcher/infielder Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.), pitcher Joe Golden (Chruchville, Pa.), outfielder Barry Walker (Egg Harbor City, N.J.), and pitcher Mike Zayas-Bazan (Bogota, N.J.) - in between contests with the Knights; the Griffins scored early in game one and held onto it with a five-out save from Golden (SV, 1.2 IP, 2H, 2K); 6-5, but had little chance in a 17-5 game-two final.

Griffin Highlights - Game One
  • Bramsway earned the game-one win (3-3), holding Neumann University to two earned runs one four hits and four walks. He struck out four as well.
  • Sophomore right fielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) and freshman shortstop Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.) singled in runs in Gwynedd Mercy University's first at-bat of the afternoon; 2-0.
  • Senior catcher Nick Price (Levittown, Pa.) got the wheels moving in the second inning; after a bunt single to third, he advanced to second on a passed ball, hustled to third on an error at third, and eventually scored along with junior first baseman Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.) on Ebling's two-run single through the left side; 4-0.
  • The Griffins responded to the Knights' three-run third inning with a run in the bottom of the frame. Dye led off with a double to right center, moved to third on a sacrifice from freshman third baseman Ryan Horner (Cinnaminson, N.J.), before scoring on grounder to the pitcher; 5-3.
  • Gwynedd Mercy University scored a necessary sixth run in the fifth inning thanks to a two-out walk to Price and a single to right from freshman second baseman Daulton McDonald (Cinnaminson, N.J.); 6-4.
  • Junker (2-for-3, BB, RBI) and Haines (2-for-4, RBI) recorded two hits apiece. and were two of five Griffins to drive in runs.
  • Golden gave up two hits and struck out two in his first save (1) of the season.
Griffins Highlights - Game Two
  • After giving the Knights a 5-0 head start, the Griffins got on the scoreboard with a Haines fourth-inning single through the left side; 5-1.
  • Later, the Red and Gold closed a 15-1 gap with RBI-singles from sophomore center fielder Chris Nodeland (Hamilton, N.J.) (15-2) and Junker (15-3).
  • Gwynedd Mercy University matched Neumann University in the ninth inning thanks to a two-run homer to left from Templeton; 17-5. It was the first Griffin home run at Frank O. Genuardi Legends Baseball Field.
Gwynedd Mercy University earned the #4 seed in the upcoming 2024 AEC Baseball Championship Tournament and will visit #1 Marymount University on Wednesday, May 8, for their first postseason contest.
