Gwynedd Valley, Pa. (3/23/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-10, 2-1) had a quick turnaround after playing a double-header with Centenary University (N.J.) just 24 hours ago as the Griffins welcome Gettysburg College (10-10) to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Field. The red and gold only managed five hits in the contest while stranding seven men on base. Sophomore outfielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) had two of the five hits with two singles, resulting in runs-batted-in (RBI) in both the fifth and seventh innings. A three-run homerun for the Bullets in the top of the third would be the only runs Gettysburg would tally but it would be enough for them to walk away with a 3-2 victory.
Griffin Highlights:
- Sophomore pitcher Patrick Talley (Collingswood, N.J.) started his fifth game going five innings, allowing three earned runs, four hits, five walks, and two strikeouts in the loss (0-3).
- Freshman pitcher Mateo Arteaga (Levittown, Pa.) pitched in relief for Talley pitching the remaining four innings (career-high) only giving up one hit, two walks, and finishing with a career-high four strikeouts.
- In the fifth inning, with runners on first and second, Junker hit a single through the middle of the diamond bringing home freshman infielder Ryan Horner (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and bringing the score to 3-1.
- Again, with Horner in scoring position in the seventh inning, Junker came up clutch with a base hit to left field knocking home Horner and cutting the lead to just one (3-2).
Gwynedd Mercy University is back in action Tuesday, March 26, when the team welcomes Ursinus College to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Field for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch.
