Gwynedd Valley, Pa. (3/23/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-11) concluded the month of March by hosting Ursinus College (7-11). The Red and Gold struggled offensively until the ninth inning where they recorded five of their six hits but came up short in the even with five runs crossing home base as the Griffins fell 8-5. Sophomore pitcher Tommy Angelucci (Mount Laurel, N.J.) started just his second game of the season as the sophomore finished with a final stat line of three innings pitched, allowing four earned runs, and giving up three walks in the loss (0-2).
Griffin Highlights:
- The first hit for Gwynedd Mercy came in the second inning when senior outfielder Barry Walker (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) singled to left field. Unfortunately, no Griffins could hit him home.
- Senior pitcher Joe Golden (Churchville, Pa.) pitched in relief for Angelucci where his final stat line (5.1IP, 6H, 1BB, 4ER, 4K) did not tell the whole story. The senior was extraordinary in his outing keeping the Red and Gold in the game. Golden pitched a career-high in both innings in a single outing (5.1) and strikeouts (4).
- Down 8-0 going into the bottom of the ninth, senior infielder Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.) started the rally with a base hit to right field. After, senior utility player Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.) was hit by a pitch and freshman infielder Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.) singled to center field to load the bases with no outs. Walker got his second hit of the day driving in two runs (8-2) and putting Haines in scoring position. A walk for junior catcher Justin Smith (Broomall, Pa.) once again loaded the bases. Sophomore infielder Dom Gerasimowicz (Pottstown, Pa.) pitched hit, and drove in a run (8-2), before a Root sacrifice fly (8-4) and a single to right field from sophomore outfielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) scored the last two Griffin runs (8-5).
Gwynedd Mercy University travels to Kean University on Thursday, March 28, for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
