true Salisbury, Pa. - (2/16/2024) - Before saying farewell to the 2023-24 regular season, Gwynedd Mercy University (9-16, 2-8) traveled to Salisbury University (7-16, 0-0) where both teams played their final regular season game before moving to their respective playoff tournament. The Griffins came out to a slow start as the Sea Gulls went on a 9-5 run to open the contest and would take an 18-6 advantage in the first quarter. The next two quarters were more favorable to Gwynedd Mercy as they won the second quarter 15-13 and the third quarter 13-8. With ten minutes left in the season finale, the Griffins only trailed Salisbury 39-34, but a strong finish from the Sea Gulls would allow them to defend home court with a 62-44 victory. Senior Guard
Lynzie Eggers (Washington Township, N.J.) finished with a career-high in points in a single season with 470 points, including a game-high 25 points tonight on 6-of-22 (27%) shooting. Eggers also went to the charity stripe a game-high 16 times knocking down 12 free throw attempts. She also tied a career-high in steals with six and finished with six rebounds and an assist.
Griffin Highlights:
- No other Griffin finished with double-digit points, however senior guard Ava Casale (Washington Township, N.J.) was the only player in red and gold to finish with multiple three-pointers made (2-of-6, 33%) to finish with seven points as well as two rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
- Junior guard Alexis Eagan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) led the Griffins in points off the bench with five as well as securing a team-high eight rebounds and two assists. Gwynedd Mercy was outscored 20-11 with points off the bench.
- Coming into the game the Griffins lead the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) in rebounds per game with 43. In tonight's contest, the Sea Gulls outrebounded Gwynedd Mercy 52-38.
