Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (10/7/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-9, 1-1) welcomed Centenary University (NJ) (7-4, 0-1) and Marymount University (9-11, 2-0) to the Griffins Complex today, Saturday, October 7, for an Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Tri-Match. The Griffins went five sets in both of their matches, defeating the Cyclones 3-2 (19-25, 25-21, 25-16, 22-25, 15-6) in the first match of the afternoon, but falling to the Saints 3-2 (14-25, 25-20, 25-13, 22-25, 15-5) in the final match. Gwynedd Mercy University had four players in double-digit kills versus Centenary University with a season-high 18-kill performance from senior middle hitter Ashley Brown (Lansdale, Pa.) leading the way. In the second match, Freshman outside hitter Kate Etter (Chambersburg, Pa.) (12 kills) and senior outside hitter Bria Purnell (Reading, Pa.) (11 kills, 1 ace) recorded 12.0 points apiece.

Griffins Highlights vs. Centenary University (NJ)

• Gwynedd Mercy University hit their best in versus Centenary University (NJ) in the first set with a .225 (14K-5E-40TA) hitting percentage.
• The Griffins finished the match with a .149 (58K-29E-195TA) hitting percentage, six aces, and six blocks.
• Brown was remarkable with 18 kills on a .410 (18K-2E-39TA) hitting percentage. She also recorded two assists, two aces, two solo blocks and five digs.
• Purnell totaled 16 points with 15 kills and an ace. She also provided nine digs.
• Etter finished with 12 kills, an assist, a block assist, and 10 digs.
• Junior middle blocker Lexi Lane (Frederick, Colo.) made 10 kills, four block assists, and three digs.
• Sophomore setter Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) supplied three kills, 42 assists, two aces, two block assists, and a dozen (12) digs.
• Sophomore libero Charlotte Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa.) led four Griffins in double-digit digs with 34. She also made three assists and recorded an ace.

Griffin Highlights vs. Marymount University

• The first set was the Griffins' best in hitting as Gwynedd Mercy University combined for a .200 (7K-2E-25TA) success rate in their 25-14 win.
• Gwynedd Mercy University's defense held Marymount University to a .084 (44K-32E-143TA) hitting percentage, but the Saints made up the difference with a 19-3 edge in aces and a 6-3 lead in blocks.
• Etter's 12 points came with an assist and four digs.
• Purnell's 12 points came with nine digs.
• Gaston finished with two kills, 32 assists, two block assists, and six digs.
• Pugh made 19 digs and a pair of assists.
