Women's Volleyball Overcomes Opening Setback to Defeat Pacers in Four

Scranton, Pa. - (10/11/2023) - After suffering a 25-13 loss in the opening set, Gwynedd Mercy University (8-9, 2-1) rattled off wins of 25-17, 25-10 and 25-21 to defeat Marywood University (6-15, 0-1) by a 3-1 (13-25, 25-17, 25-10, 25-21) final in tonight's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) match. The Pacers used two early runs to jump out to a 13-4 lead in the first set. They eventually padded their position to 20-7 before taking the frame 25-13. The Griffins separated from the early back-and-forth of the second set with six straight points on the serve of freshman defensive specialist Danika Lewis (Coopersburg, Pa.), 8-4, and gradually grew the difference to 20-12 before a 25-17 end. Gwynedd Mercy University broke from the stalemate on the authority of a 25-10 third-set win and concluded the match by scoring five of the last six points in a 25-21 fourth-set finish.
