GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Basketball team hosts Neumann University tonight in the Colonial States Athletic Conference semifinals. Both teams are very familiar with each other as the teams also met last year in the semifinals but in Aston. The Griffins won that contest and then bested Cabrini for the school's seventh conference championship under Head Coach
Keith Mondillo.
Julianna Hoisington and
Olivia Roseman each earned a spot on the All-CSAC second team. Hoisington is the team's three-point threat, hitting over 36% from downtown and leading the squad in three-pointers made (36) while averaging 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest. In 16 conference games this season, her numbers improve to 9.5 points a game and a 49% shooting clip from behind the arc. Her season-high 19 point-performance against Marywood on February 10th earned her the CSAC Player of the Week Award. Roseman is ranked seventh in the conference in assists per game (3.2 apg) as she averages 7.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.4 steals and owns a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio that ranks her third in the CSAC. She tied a career high with 21 points in the win at Neumann on February 14th to help the Griffins cement the #2 playoff seed.
For the Knights Junior Nafisa Saunders, was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Player of the Year, announced on Monday. Saunders, who is also named first team All-CSAC, leads the CSAC in scoring with 18.6 points per game, while converting a conference-high 163 field goals and 134 free throws. Earlier this year she scored 37 points in a win over Marywood on January 31. She was also the CSAC Player of the Week back on January 15.
In the other semifinal top seeded Cabrini will host Marywood. The Cavaliers won their previous contest, 74-69, in Scranton.
Tonight's winners will meet on Saturday at the highest seed remaining.
