NEW YORK —
Rich Dunham led his team in scoring again, but it was not enough to defeat Tufts University. Dunham also contributed 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Matt Sommers also added 3 steals and a season high 17 points. Wolfe and Cubbage each chipped in 11 points on the night.
Eric Savage led Tufts with 19 points. He also added 4 blocks and 5 rebounds. The Jumbos had four players finish with double digit scoring.
With baskets from Sommers and
Donaven Spencer, the Griffins were able to take an early lead, but the Jumbos tied it up quickly. The two teams continued to go back and forth throughout the first half, but Tufts fought their way to a 9 point lead with just over 6 minutes to go. The Jumbos continued to sink baskets resulting in a score of 35-46 at half time.
The Griffins came out strong in the second half to chip away at their opponent's lead. Back to back to back layups from Dunham and
Courtney Cubbage brought the score to 53-57. The teams exchanged baskets until
Somah Slewion gave the Griffins a one point lead by sinking two layups. Tufts went on a scoring streak shortly after to secure the game. Four free throws, two layups, and two threes had the Tufts up by 13 with
6:30 left in the game. Those baskets were too much for the Griffins to overcome and the fell 78-92.
The Griffins play Bates College
at 1pm on Saturday in the consolation game.
