Saturday afternoon at
3 p.m. right here at the Griffin Complex. The Griffins (20-6) the #1 tournament seed will host the #2 seed Neumann Knights (19-7), who defeated #3 seed Cabrini 76-75
on Wednesday night.
GMercyU advanced to the CSAC Championship game with their
92-84 semifinal win over Rosemont Wednesday night at The Griffin Complex. Junior
Cedric Elleby led five starters in double figures, scoring a game-high 30 points as the Griffins will make its seventh appearance in the conference title game.
Darnell Artis netted 16 points,
Brian Hennessey totaled 15,
Julian Hyden added 14, and
Aaron Morgan kicked in 11.
The Griffins split their home and home series this year with the Knights with each team winning on the road. Gwynedd Mercy
defeated Neumann 102-92 back on December 2nd. While the Knights returned the favor
giving Gwynedd their only CSAC loss on February 3rd with their 88-77 victory.
Darian Barnes led the Knights with 22 points and 14 rebounds in their semifinal victory. James Butler netted 18 points and DeShawn Lowman added 16 points for Neumann to earn their third straight appearance in the CSAC Championship game. Neumann won its first Conference title last season.
Under head coach
John Baron, the 2015-16 CSAC Coach of the Year, the Griffins have won three CSAC Championships (2004, 2005 and 2009). Gwynedd also won the conference championship in 1999. This will be their seventh appearance in the title game. The Knights are playing in their sixth.
The teams last met in the CSAC playoffs when the Neumann defeated the Griffins, 95-78, in the 2014 semifinal round.
The winner will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tourmament. Pairings will be announced on Monday afternoon.
