LAPLUME, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy shot over 55% in the second half to pull away from Keystone, 93-79, Saturday afternoon for their eighth-straight victory.
Leading 47-36 at the half, the Griffins (13-5, 11-0 CSAC) used a 12-0 run early in the second to establish a 19-point lead (63-44) with just over 15 minutes to go. The lead would not go under 13 the rest of the way to help keep GMercyU unbeaten in CSAC play.
Julian Hyden and
Arron Goodman each netted 23 points apiece while
Aaron Morgan added 12 and
Darnell Artis and
Cedric Elleby kicked in 11 apiece.
Despite seven ties and eight lead changes in the first half, the Griffins started to get things moving midway in the period. Goodman's hoop and harm broke a 18-18 tie and help start a 17-5 spurt over the next five-plus minutes for a 12-point lead.
The Giants would get the lead down to just 35-28 with just over four minutes to go but Gwynedd responded when Artis would get fouled on a three-point attempt, hitting all three tries and later Hyden would have his own three-point play to help restore the double-digit lead.
Goodman had 12 of his points in the first half, as his three-point play just before the buzzer sent GMercyU up 11 at the break.
The game-changing 12-0 run happened over a three-minute span early in the second and was capped off by a three from Morgan, his third of the game.
Artis dialed out five assists while Goodman was a rebound shy of his first double-double of the season with nine boards.
Deion Monroe led the Giants (4-14, 4-7 CSAC) with 16 points. He was one of five players in double figures for Keystone, who shot 39.7% (25-of-63) for the game.
Gwynedd was 15-of-27 from the floor in the second, to finish on a 32-of-62 (51.6%) shooting clip.
The Griffins resume action on Monday when they head to Immaculata to take on the Mighty Macs in CSAC action starting at 8 p.m.
