Men's Basketball Rallies To Keep Streak Alive

Win streak reaches nine

IMMACULATA, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy kept their winning streak intact as they rallied from a 20-point first-half deficit to on the road in a 75-73 CSAC victory at Immaculata Monday evening.

Down 42-22 with 6:11 left in the first, the Griffins (14-5, 12-0 CSAC) would close out the stanza on an 11-0 run keyed by back-to-back-to-back three-pointers from seniors Darnell Artis and Julian Hyden.

The Griffins had four players in double figures led by Hyden with a game-high 24 points. Artis would chip in 13 while Cedric Elleby added 16 and Arron Goodman with 10. Aaron Morgan scored just seven points, but his two big free throws late in the game gave GMercyU the lead for good.

Rodney Duncan (18 points) led five players in double digits for the Mighty Macs (7-12, 6-6 CSAC). IU would hit 15 three-pointers on the night, five of which came from Duncan.

Hyden's two trips at the line at the 14:13 mark of the second gave GMercyU its first lead of the contest. Their lead grew to as much as 55-49 before IU went on a 10-4 capped off by a three from Tony Calamaro with 8:11 in the game to tie things up at 59-59. Calamaro struck again to tie things up at 73-73 at the 1:15 mark of the game. After a Gwynedd miss on the next possession, Immaculata would call a timeout with 41 ticks left.

Morgan was able to come up with a steal and pick up a foul on his way to the basket. He would make both tries and the defense was able to snuff out a final shot attempt from IU to stay unbeaten in conference play.

Notes: Hyden would also snare 14 rebounds, tying a career high, while posting his sixth double-double on the year…Morgan dished out a game-high five assists and added three steals.
