Griffins Stay Unbeaten In CSAC Play With Win Over Summit

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy posted its largest margin of victory of the season in defeating Summit, 99-54, Wednesday night at The Griffin Complex in CSAC action.

Six Griffins reached double figures led by Arron Goodman with a game-high 17 points. Rookie Courtney Cubbage went for 16 points and 11 rebounds, both career-highs, for his first collegiate double-double. Julian Hyden added 13 points and three steals while Cedric Elleby and Brian Hennessey chipped in 11 each. Darnell Artis was an assist shy of a
double-double himself, finishing with 10 points and nine assists.

GMercyU (9-5, 7-0 CSAC) led from start to finish, shooting 56% in the first half. With the Griffins leading 17-12 at the 12:13 mark of the first, it was a three-pointer from Cubbage that sparked a game-changing 45-6 run to close the half.

Larry Jones III led the rebounding corps, tying a personal-best with 12. As a team, the Griffins held a 47-27 edge on the glass. Sophomore Drew Dietterich would contribute seven points and two big blocked shots.

Matt Harris had nine points, five boards, and three blocks for the Defenders (1-13, 1-6 CSAC). Abe Valentine registered eight points, six caroms, and three assists. Summit rebounded from a 27% shooting effort in the first to go 13-for-30 (43%) in the second.

Gwynedd Mercy was on a 36-for-68 clip (52%) for the night including nine three-pointers.

The team is back in action on Saturday when they head to Centenary to continue CSAC play.
