#16 Cabrini 9, Gwynedd Mercy 5

BOX SCORE

RADNOR, PA. -- The Griffins came up a bit short in their bid to knock off #16-ranked Cabrini, 9-5, Wednesday night in CSAC action. The loss also hands Gwynedd their first conference loss and snaps a four-game winning streak.

Junior Nick Guglielmi (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) notched a two fourth-quarter man-up goals while senior Nico Belardo (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington), junior Tony McCraw (Lawnton, Pa./Central Dauphin East), and sophomore Alfonso Manzo (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern) also tallied for GMercyU (8-3, 2-1 CSAC). Belardo also contributed two assists.

Tyler Johnston led the Cavaliers (7-5, 3-0 CSAC) with a game-high four points on two goals and two assists. Teammate Damien Sobieski also scored twice.

An early Cabrini goal in the first was the only scoring in the first quarter. Belardo would open the second with an unassisted tally early on, but it was the Cavaliers who would net the next four, including a goal with 27 seconds left before the break to give Cabrini a 5-1 lead.

Johnston would net one of his two goals in the third while the Griffins answered with tallies from Manzo and McCraw.

A cross checking penalty early in the fourth put Gwynedd on the man-up where they cashed in with Guglielmi to make it a 6-4 contest with 13:07 to go. Later in the stanza, Johnston and Sobieski would beat goalie John Black (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) to add to the lead. Guglielmi added his second man-up goal on the night with 2:24 left but it was Cabrini seizing on a Griffin penalty as Sobieski countered with one of his own with just over a minute to account for the final score.

Black and Cavalier keeper Tyler Morrell finished with 11 saves each. Cabrini closely outshot the Griffins, 38-34. Belardo tied a personal best with three caused turnovers while McCraw scooped up a game-high six groundballs.

The squad is back in action on Saturday when Marywood visits in a conference matchup starting at noon.
