NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- Gwynedd Mercy improved to 4-0 on the season as the Griffins defeated Mount Saint Mary, 13-9 Saturday afternoon.

Junior Tony McCraw (Lawnton, Pa./Central Dauphin East) recorded three goals and three assists while Blase Cesarone (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) added a career-high four goals as Gwynedd, who trailed 5-2 midway in the second, scored four-straight to close the half to lead 6-5. It didn't stop there, as the offense registered five of the next six goals in the third to help take an 11-6 lead heading into the fourth.

The Griffins outshot the Knights, 55-26, while holding a 48-29 edge in groundballs. The team would cause 11 turnovers while winning 19-of-24 faceoffs. McCraw was a perfect 7-for-7 while senior Peter Pappas (Newtown Square, Pa./Great Valley) was 10-for-14.

Goalie John Black (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) recorded the win, as the senior made seven saves. Christopher Doerr of the Knights was kept busy, making 27 stops.

Senior Nico Belardo (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) tallied two goals while Dillon Cave (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), sophomore Alfonso Manzo (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern), and freshman Dominic Moscariello (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) each chipped in a goal and an assist.

Joseph Rizzotti led Mount Saint Mary (1-2) with three goals and an assist.

Gwynedd totaled 18 shots in the second quarter alone, as the team scored three of their four-goal spurt in the final 4:50 of the stanza. After the teams traded goals to open the third, the team took advantage of the Knight's penalties in a span of a minute. McCraw would set up Belardo at the 9:33 mark, but a penalty was called after the goal, giving the Griffins another crack at the man-up. GMercyU cashed in as McCraw found paydirt on an assist from Manzo. Cesarone would tack on two more and Gwynedd had an  11-6 edge.

The Griffins will host Haverford on Wednesday in a 4 p.m. start.
