BOX SCOREHACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- Gwynedd Mercy picked up their fourth win in a row, holding Centenary scoreless for the first three quarters en route to a 10-2 CSAC win on Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Tony McCraw (Lawnton, Pa./Central Dauphin East) recorded a game-high six points on four goals and two assists while
Tommy Belmont (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) netted three scores.
The Griffins (8-2, 2-0 CSAC) broke through late in the first quarter, getting goals from Belmont and two from McCraw in the final 3:44 of the period. McCraw would strike again and junior
Blase Cesarone (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) also found the back of the net late in the frame to give GMercyU a solid 5-0 lead at the break. The lead was solid due to the Griffin defense who held the Cyclones to eight shots in the half.
Gwynedd poured in three more in the third to lead 8-0. Centenary would get a goal from Michael Muff at 9:54 mark of the fourth. Muff would assist on the second Cyclone goal minutes later. Belmont would cap the scoring with two tallies coming just 16 seconds apart later in the fourth.
Goalie
John Black (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) registered nine saves on just 16 shots. Kevin Switzer was busy, recording 22 stops on 44 shots.
10 different Griffins recorded a caused turnover, while the team held a 21-14 groundball edge and were 10-of-14 on faceoffs. Sophomore
Marc Bushong (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) led the Griffins with five GB's while McCraw won 8-of-11 on the draw.
Senior
Nico Belardo (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) and junior
Nick Guglielmi (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) also scored for the Griffins.
Gwynedd is now off until Wednesday, April 8th when they travel to Cabrini for a big CSAC matchup.
