BOX SCORE

WILLIAMSPORT, PA. -- Senior Nico Belardo (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) scored five times, including three straight in the decisive third quarter and notched his 100th career point to help lift Gwynedd Mercy to an 11-7 win at Lycoming Saturday afternoon.

Belardo would add two assists while teammate Blase Cesarone (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) added three goals of his own.

The Griffins (2-0) raced out to a 4-0 lead after the first on goals from Belardo, Cesarone, and Tony McCraw (Lawnton, Pa./Central Dauphin East). Lycoming would answer three in a row in the second before Belardo set up Tommy Belmont (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) later in the stanza. Just 11 seconds later, McCraw set up Cesarone and GM took a 6-3 lead into halftime.

After the teams traded scores early in the third, Belardo tallied three more in a five minute span to help open up a 10-4 advantage. The Warriors (0-2) looked to answer with two goals early in the fourth, but were held in check. Cesarone added his second with 11:39 to play. It remained scoreless the rest of the way until a late score from Lycoming solidified the final score.

Senior goalie John Black (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) saw 42 shots and recorded 14 saves. GM fired off 31 shots, with 10 saves going to Lycoming's Alex Wylly.

Steve Campaniello and Christian Jacobs each had two goals for Lycoming.

Belardo, with his seven points on the day, now sits at 104 career points and sits in fourth place all-time in that category.

The team stats were nearly identical with the Warriors winning the groundball way, 28-26, and winning 11 of 20 faceoffs. The Griffins converted on 1-of-5 man-up chances and were good on 16-of-17 clears.

Gwynedd Mercy will play at Arcadia on Wednesday in a new start time of 7 p.m.
