SCRANTON, PA. --
Darnell Artis scored a team-high 16 points including his 1,000th career point in the second half to help Gwynedd Mercy to an 83-53 win at Marywood Tuesday night in the CSAC opener for both teams.
The senior was one of five players in double figures as the Griffins (2-3, 1-0 CSAC) never trailed in the contest.
Julian Hyden and
Paul Moore each chipped in 13 while
Cedric Elleby added 12 and
Courtney Cubbage scored 10.
After shooting 48% in the first half, GMercyU went on a 60% tear (17-of-28) in the second, turning a 40-28 halftime lead into a 21-point lead midway in the stanza.
Elleby would cap a 13-0 run with a huge dunk for a 65-41 lead with 9:18 to play. GM would keep a 20-point cushion the rest of the way.
Artis becomes the 11th player in team history to reach the scoring plateau. Artis also dished out six assists. Hyden doled out five and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for his second-straight double-double. Moore's 13 points were a career high.
Kendall Harris registered 20 points and Connor Calejas contributed 19 as the Pacers (3-1, 0-1 CSAC) were handed their first defeat of the season.
Gwynedd Mercy is now off until Wednesday, December 2nd when they visit Neumann for a conference clash starting at 7 p.m.
