Griffins Can't Get Past Ospreys

GALLOWAY, N.J. -- Despite four double digit performances, the Griffins were unable to come out on top in falling to the Ospreys of Stockton, 80-64, Saturday afternoon in the Stockton Tip-off Classic.  The loss now leaves the Griffins 1-3 overall before they begin conference play next week.

Julian Hyden led Gwynedd with 17 points, going 6-for-12 from the field and pulling in a career-high 14 rebounds for the only double-double of the game. Aaron Morgan was not far behind with 15 points, going 3-for-6 from behind the arc. Darnell Artis chipped in 12 along with Cedric Elleby with 10.

In the first, the Ospreys (2-1) would only relinquish a two point lead on one occasion as the Griffins struggled to connect offensively.  Down 22-13 mid-way through the half, The Griffins bounced back to tie it up 24 apiece with three pointers by Brian Hennessey, Hyden and a pair of free throws from Morgan. In spite of the offensive surge the Ospreys were quick to answer as they built another small lead to go into the break, up 39-33.

Unfortunately, the second half did not fall in the Griffins favor as Stockton continued to push the tempo offensively opening the second on a 12-3 run.  Stretching the lead to as many as 17, GM's 17 turnovers left Stockton with too many offensive opportunities.

Overall, GM was 19-for-58 (32.8%) from the field and just 8-24 (33.3%) from behind the arc. Stockton' would hit 10 three's and shoot 29-for-65 (44.6%) and 13-for-14 at the charity stripe.

Jaymere Haddon led all scorers with a game-high 20 points. Marcus Harmon added 12

Hyden and Morgan were named to the all-tournament team along with Wayne Lennon of Wesley, DeShawn Lowman of Neumann, Harmon, and MVP Haddon.

The Griffins are back in action on Tuesday as they kick off Colonial States Athletic Conference play on the road against Marywood. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
