true Marywood 11, Gwynedd Mercy 10
BOX SCORESCRANTON, PA. -- Senior
Mason Risner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) scored three times to become the program's all-time goal leader but the Griffins fell in their season finale at Marywood, 11-10, Thursday night.
Gwynedd Mercy clinches the #3 playoff seed and will face these same Pacers, the #2 seed, on Tuesday in a semifinal contest. Game time is TBA.
The Griffins held an 8-5 lead at halftime but saw Marywood score three in a row in the fourth quarter, the last coming with just over a minute left in regulation.
Sophomore
Tony McCraw (Lawnton, Pa./Central Dauphin East) also added three goals and added 14 groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers. Junior
Matt Richter (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) chipped in two scores.
Risner surpasses
Roy Bakeoven for the all-time lead in goals as he now sits at 99 for his career. He also moved into second place in career points (139) and trails Bakeoven by four points.
GM scored four times in the first, twice by Risner who hit the milestone with his second of the game at the 3:26 mark. The Pacers (10-8, 5-1 CSAC) worked to get it 5-5 late in the second, but the Griffins added three-straight tallies to close the half, two by McCraw, and one by Richter, coming with 46 seconds left for an 8-5 lead.
Marywood's Riley Dobel would score four of his game-high five goals in the second half, including the eventual game-winner with 1:18 remaining. Gwynedd would win the ensuing faceoff, call a timeout, and get one last look, but goalie Joe Magargal would make his eighth save of the night to preserve the win.
John Black (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) would make seven stops in goal.
