BOX SCOREGWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy suffered their first conference loss as #5 Cabrini handed the Griffins a 17-6 defeat Thursday afternoon.
The loss also snaps Gwynedd's three game winning streak.
Mason Risner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) scored twice and added an assist as the senior now sits one goal behind the all-time leader,
Roy Bakeoven (97 goals).
The Griffins (8-4, 4-1 CSAC) did get on the board first, as
Tony McCraw (Lawnton, Pa./Central Dauphin East) found the back of the net 52 second into the contest. The Cavaliers responded, netting three straight on goals by Corey Elmer, Enrique Montoya and Mike Leyden.
Cabrini extended its scoring run to five unanswered goals, as Damian Sobieski and Anthony DiSanzo opened the second quarter with tallies. The teams would trade goals to end the half, putting the Cavs on top 7-3 at halftime.
Gwynedd would see the Cavaliers widen the gap, scoring four times in the third for an 11-3 after three.
Elmer finished with three goals and five assists while Sobieski totaled a game-high seven goals.
McCraw and freshman
Marc Bushong (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) led GM with six groundballs apiece. Bushong and junior
Reese Lachner (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) each had two caused turnovers.
Goalie
Ryan Murphy would make a career-high 14 saves in net. Cabrini keeper Hank Altschuler recorded 10.
Gwynedd Mercy closes out the regular season a week from today with a conference game at Marywood. GM has clinched a playoff spot and the winner of Thursday's game will claim the #2 seed and a home playoff game.
