BOX SCOREAMBLER, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Women's Lacrosse Team took down Bryn Athyn, 16-7, on Thursday to give first-year head coach
Stephanie Markunas her first coaching victory and first win of the season.
Junior
Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) led all scorers tying a career-high with seven points (six goals, assist) and adding seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. Sophomore
Danae Perrymond (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) added four more as the Griffins (1-1) rebounded from a slow start to pick up their first victory of the year.
The Lions scored twice in the game's first minute, to give the first-year program a brief lead. GM would answer with three of their own on goals from
Elizabeth Rand (Portland, Me./Catherine McAuley), Yori, and
Sarah Lombardi (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) in the next minute and a half and not look back.
Yori would score four in the half, the last coming at 9:33 for a 9-3 advantage. Bryn Athyn's Erika Hyatt put one in right before the break, making it a five-goal Griffin lead at halftime.
Hyatt finished with three goals for the Lions while Sierra Asplundh added two.
Rand, Lombardi each tallied two scores each while freshmen
Renee Lachner (Flemington, N.J./Huntingdon Central) and
Haley Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) added a goal.
Goalie
Megan Rose (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) recorded six saves in net. BAC's Karla Hyatt made 13.
The Griffins held a 34-16 shooting and 26-14 groundball edge.
The game was played at Upper Dublin High School's Spark Field.
Gwynedd Mercy is off until Wednesday, March 12th when they welcome King's College in the home opener at 4 p.m.
