Head Coach Stephanie Markunas enters her 3rd year at the helm of Gwynedd Mercy University Women’s Lacrosse Program., Prior to her first season the Griffins,had a 3-10 record finishing 7th in the CSAC with a conference record of 2-6., In her first season Markunas helped coach the Griffins to a record of 4-4 in conference and 7-10 overall which earned them a spot in the CSAC Tournament., In 2015 the Griffins made small improvements closing out the season 5-4 in conference and 8-10 overall., Making their second CSAC Tournament appearance under her control, they fell to Marywood in the first round., In those two seasons she has coached,one two-time First Team,All- CSAC and three Honorable Mention All-CSAC selections., Along with coaching Stephanie is also the Assistant Sports Information Director.
Markunas came to Gwynedd Mercy as a part-time coach after she served as the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach at Harrition High School in Villanova, Pa., While at Harrition, she helped coach the Rams to win the Pennsylvania State Championship in 2013., While working part-time with Gwynedd, she was also an Adjunct Kinesiology Instructor at Temple University.
A 2012 graduate from Temple University, Markunas earned her degree in Strategic and Organizational Communications with a minor in Public Relations. During her three years at Temple she totaled over 50 goals and 100 points for the Owls as one of the top leaders on the score board in each of her seasons., Concluding her career as an Owl, Markunas was an IWLCA All-Region Second Team Selection, named to the Atlantic 10 First-Team and named to the IWLCA North-South Senior All-Star Game roster., She played her freshmen year at Penn State before transferring to Temple in 2009.
A native of Ridley Park Pennsylvania, Markunas was an eight-time letter winner in lacrosse and basketball at Ridley High School., In her two seasons with the lacrosse team she was named offensive MVP, First-Team All-Central, First-Team All-Delco, Academic All-American and Takkle Sports Illustrated Top 100 in the Nation., She played and coached club lacrosse for Ultimate Goal and was named First-Team All-Galaxy and First Team Upper Atlantic National Team., She currently resides in Philadelphia, Pa.
