BOX SCORE

ARLINGTON, VA. -- Two late goals were the difference as Gwynedd Mercy fell at Marymount, 8-6, Wednesday evening in a non-conference tilt.

The Griffins (0-2), who were able to tie the game midway in the fourth quarter on a tally from Matt Richter (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown), saw the Saints net the go-ahead goal with 5:41 left and tack on an insurance score just over a minute later.

Richter had two of the six goals on the night. Nico Belardo (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington), Matt Brasher (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton), Tommy Belmont (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley), also Alfonzo Manzo (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern) scored for Gwynedd.

Three goals early in the first would stake the Griffins to a 3-0 lead before Marymount (4-0) would net the next four, the last coming with a second before halftime, to take a 4-3 edge at the break.

Belardo's goal was the only score in the third, sending both teams tied at 4-4 into the fourth.

The Saints' Nico Burns had a game-high three goals, with two coming in the fourth and the eventual game-winner.

Marymount outshot GM, 29-27, but had 16 turnovers to the Griffins' 12. Both teams collected 20 groundballs each. Neither team was able to capitalize on their man-up units, as Gwynedd was 0-for-6 and the Saints, 0-for-4.

Junior goalie Ryan Murphy (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) recorded a personal-best 10 saves in net. His counterpart, Derek DiGiovanni made 13 stops.

Gwynedd returns to action on Saturday when they have their home opener against Mount Saint Mary at 1 p.m.
