BOX SCORE

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Centenary spoiled Gwynedd Mercy's first-ever home playoff game as the fifth-seeded Cyclones knocked off the fourth-seeded Griffins, 3-2, in overtime in a first-round game of the 2014 Colonial States Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.

Gwynedd, who was making their first postseason appearance since 2009, got a pair of goals from sophomore Danny Saba (Dallas, Pa./Dallas), but Centenary's Magno Frano would net the game-winner 5:40 into the first extra session.

Each team scored once in each half. The Cyclones got on the board at 14:06 as Abiodun Lawal was able put away a loose ball of a great diving save from GM goalie Matt Chilcote (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley). Saba and the Griffins answered just under two minutes later as sophomore Chris Black (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) took a free kick near the right corner where his strike went right to Saba who one-touched it past Centenary keeper Jesse Goleman.

It stayed tied at 1-1 heading into the second half, where both teams picked up the intensity. A total of eight cautions were given, six in the second stanza alone.

Saba netted his second of the night in the 65th minute as he took a feed from Rich Mychack (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) and danced around through two defenders to create space and beat Goleman for a 2-1 lead.

Centenary came right back less than a minute later when Luis Marin one-timed a short pass from Quinn Khori and the teams were deadlocked once again.

Mychack had a good look off a corner kick with 10 minutes in regulation, but his shot in the scrum sailed wide left.

In overtime, it was Marin who dribbled along the right endline and was able to feed a pass to Franco who got it through traffic and under Chilcote to win it for Centenary (12-6-1).

The Griffins conclude the season at 7-12. It would be the final game for the team's four seniors: Ryan Roedel (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy), Tyler Walter (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood), Steve Pereira (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent), and Zac Clifford (Rushland, Pa./Central Bucks East).
