BOX SCORE
PHOTO GALLERYGWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Griffins took time to honor their three seniors before the game with Richard Stockton and proceeded to give them a 5-1 runaway victory on Saturday.
Junior
Stephanie Bacho (Cinnaminson, N.J./Holy Cross) scored twice and added two assists while freshman
Brianna O'Connell (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) also added two goals as GM (7-3) won their third-straight game.
Prior to the contest, the team's three seniors:
Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton),
Brooke Oliver (Red Hill, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and
Brittany Wilson (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Upper Moreland) along with their families were honored by the team and coaching staff in a special ceremony.
The three had a hand in the win today, as Kruk would make four stops, Oliver added a big defensive save, and Wilson assisted on the team's third penalty corner goal.
In all, the Griffins converted on three of their nine penalty corners. The first came in the 18th minute as junior
Katie O'Neill (Warrington, Pa./Council Rock North) got a touch on a pass from Bacho. The Ospreys (5-5) answered just under two minutes later on a penalty corner of their own as Samantha Barcia banged home a rebound off a save from Kruk and a defensive save to even it up at 1-1.
Bacho would set up O'Connell on the first of her two tallies right before the half. O'Connell blasted a one-timer into the circle to give GM a 2-1 halftime lead.
O'Connell opened the second half with a score before Bacho would add two of her own in the stanza to account for the final score. Her second, coming in the 62nd minute, was a masterpiece as she beautifully deflected a hit from Wilson to the upper part of the cage.
Liz Stankiewicz made six saves in net for Richard Stockton. The Griffins outshot RS, 22-8, officially.
Gwynedd Mercy resumes action on Tuesday when they travel to Delaware Valley in a 4 p.m. start.
The senior trio have started every game of their Griffin career. Kruk and Wilson were making their 73rd appearance while Oliver, after transferring from Division I Sacred Heart, was in her 49th.
