Centenary 15, Gwynedd-Mercy 14 OT
BOX SCORE
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- Centenary's Carlie Schmitt scored with 30 seconds remaining in overtime as Gwynedd-Mercy suffered a tough 15-14 loss to the Cyclones on Tuesday.
The Griffins (3-10, 2-5 CSAC), who battled back from a four-goal deficit in the second half only to take a late lead near the end of regulation, have now been eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.
Sophomore
Dani Horn (Colmar, Pa./North Penn) almost singlehandedly lifted GM to the win, scoring a game-high seven goals, the final two of which came to tie it with 2:50 left, and a late lead with just 1:48 to play.
The Cyclones (5-7, 3-3 CSAC) were able to tie it at 14-14 with 28 ticks on a score from Brittlyn Dendy. Gwynedd was able to win the ensuing draw control and work a final shot, but an attempt from freshman
Danae Perrymond (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) on an 8-meter shot, went just over the crossbar.
In the first three-minute overtime session, GM would score their sixth 8-meter goal, this one coming from sophomore
Casey Gaughan (Philadelphia, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) 1:14 into the stanza.
Goalie
Marina Hubbard (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) made two incredible point-blank saves towards the end of the first OT to keep Centenary off the board.
After switching ends, the second overtime session started with Centenary winning the draw control and converting on a score from Nicole Judd with 2:05 on the clock.
Hubbard would make another important save on later in the period, stopping Dendy from close range, but the clear was turned back over to the Cyclones as Schmitt deflected a clearing pass, scooped up the ball and beat Hubbard with 30 seconds to play. They would win the draw and run out the clock.
Hubbard finished with 15 saves. Her counterpart, Andrea Senkarik, made 13.
Schmitt and Dendy each finished with three goals while teammate Allie Swartz had a team-high four.
Perrymond and junior
Amy Powell (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) totaled three scores and an assist apiece. Perrymond also nabbed 10 of the 23 draw controls.
Gwynedd-Mercy will head up to King's in a non-conference clash on Thursday night starting at 7 p.m.
