NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Five goals each from Roy Bakeoven (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and Dustan Mangin (Perkasie, Pa./Archbishop Wood) helped stake Gwynedd-Mercy to its first win on the season in an 18-7 win at Mt. St. Mary.

William Beck (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) added four tallies and two assists as the Griffins (1-1) rebounded from a 4-1 deficit after one quarter with a six-goal second to take a commanding lead.

Ryley O'Keefe (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) needed four saves to earn his 14th career win, which is a program record in the short five-year history of the Griffin Men's Lacrosse Team. The five goals from Bakeoven and Mangin were also a career-high for each.

The second quarter also saw Gwynedd outshoot the Knights, 13-3. Mangin scored three of his goals in the stanza, including the go-ahead tally at the 8:04 mark and last, coming with 12 seconds before halftime to put GM up 7-4 at the break. Things didn't change in the third, as the Griffins poured on four-straight to take a seven-goal lead.

Matt Brasher (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) added a pair while Dillon Cave (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan)  and Tony McCraw (Lawnton, Pa./Central Dauphin East) rounded out the scoring for GM.

Andrew Pullen led Mt. St. Mary (2-2) with three goals. Goalie Conor Haran made 10 saves in net for MSM.

For the game, the Griffins held a 47-24 shooting edge while compiling a 46-42 groundball advantage. The team was good on 17-of-21 clears and won 18-of-29 faceoffs.

Gwynedd-Mercy will have their home opener on Wednesday when they welcome Marymount in non-conference action in a 4 p.m. start.
