GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Marymount spoiled Gwynedd-Mercy's home opener as the Griffins fell, 9-6, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
Senior
William Beck (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) paced GM (1-2) with a game-high three goals while freshman
Tony McCraw (Lawnton, Pa./Central Dauphin East) added two. The Griffins trailed by one goal midway in the third, but the Saints held Gwynedd to one goal over the rest of the contest to pull out the victory.
Both teams traded scores in the first before Marymount netted the next four to take a 6-2 lead. Beck added one last goal off a great feed from senior
Dustan Mangin (Perkasie, Pa./Archbishop Wood) late in the quarter to pull GM within three at the half.
McCraw struck early in the second and later a goal from junior
Mark Vattilana (Wilmington, De./Brandywine) at the 7:12 mark it was suddenly a 6-5 game.
The Saint's Vince Lodato scored the next two, with the second coming 2:01 into the fourth to restore a three-goal edge. Beck's unassisted tally with 11 minutes left was the last goal for the Griffins.
The Griffins won 14-of-18 faceoffs with senior
Jonathan Figliola (Weston, Ct./Weston) winning 12-of-16 and McCraw was a perfect 2-for-2.

Ryley O'Keefe (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made 13 saves for GM. Marymount keeper Derek DiGiovanni recorded 15. The Saints held a narrow shooting margin, 37-36 and groundball edge, 25-22.
Gwynedd-Mercy will resume action on Saturday when they travel to Albright College in a 1 p.m. start.
