MEDIA, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy had the most goals scored in a game since 2005 with a 6-0 win at Penn State-Brandywine on Monday.
Junior
Tyler Ward (Philadelphia, Pa./North Catholic) recorded a natural hat trick as the Griffins (2-6), who won their second in a row, equaled a six-goal performance back on October 18, 2005 win a 6-1 win over Valley Forge Christian College.
Juniors
Steve Macor (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon),
Ryan Moffatt (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and
Mike Wambold (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) also scored for Gwynedd.
Freshman
Seth Lindner (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) chipped in two assists as GM outshot PSU, 21-8.
After an early tally by Macor, Ward started his scoring spree with a run into the box off a nice feed to make it 2-0 with under nine minutes in the first half. His second goal came in the 49th minute and used a little luck to boot. Ward's centering pass was deflected off a PSU defender to add to the lead. In the 74th minute, Ward secured the hat trick with a breakaway score.
PSU keeper Nick Previti recorded six saves. The duo of freshman
Greg Gengaro (Bloomsbury, N.J./Phillipsburg) and
Miguel Pereira (Philadelphia, Pa./Swenson Arts & Tech) combined to make two stops in the shutout win.
