Men's Lacrosse Holds Off Ospreys For First Win

GALLOWAY, N.J. -- Gwynedd-Mercy notched their first win of the season in holding off Richard Stockton, 9-8, Wednesday evening in non-conference action.

Sophomore Nathan Pendleton (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led GM (1-2) by scoring three of his game-high four goals in the second half. His two scores in the third quarter alone helped brake a 6-6 tie.

Junior Roy Bakeoven (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) added two goals and an assist.

Despite being outshot 39-34, junior goalie Ryley O'Keefe (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made 11 stops in goal.

Gwynedd built a 5-2 lead in the first before the Ospreys (2-1) scored twice in the final minute. Pendleton netted the team's only man-up goal in the second as the Grifins held a 6-5 lead at the half.

Vinny Gencarelli scored three times for Richard Stockton. Teammate Wade Veselka added two goals.

Craig Trueblood (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg), Stefan Hetland (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley), and William Beck (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) also recorded goals for GM.

The Griffins return home on Saturday to face off with Mount Saint Mary in a 1 p.m. start.
