Craig Trueblood (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) set a program record with eight goals to help lead Gwynedd-Mercy to a 15-5 thumping of Shenandoah Saturday afternoon in a CSAC contest.
After scoring the game's first three goals, he would add three more in the third quarter as part of a game-changing eight-goal period, turning a tight game into a runaway conference win.
Sophomore
Nathan Pendleton (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and freshman
Nico Belardo (Columbus, N.J/Northern Burlington) added two score apiece as GM (6-4, 2-1 CSAC) led in almost every offensive category.
Trueblood's three tallies and an unassisted goal from senior
Nick Coan (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) sprung the Griffins to a 4-0 after the first. The Hornets (0-11, 0-3 CSAC) answered with three-straight of their own, the last coming with 3:18 in the second stanza to make it a 4-3 game at the half.
Juniors
Dustan Mangin (Perkasie, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and
Roy Bakeoven (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) also recorded goals for GM. Coan added a game-high three assists, while Mangin and Bakeoven each had two.
Junior goalie
Ryley O'Keefe (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) needed just five saves. SU keeper Tyler Quinn recorded eight in three quarters of work. Brett Holmes came on in the fourth and recorded three stops.
Gwynedd-Mercy is off Wednesday when they travel to Neumann for a conference battle in a 7 p.m. evening start.
