Men's Lacrosse Nails Down First CSAC Win

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy picked up its first CSAC win on the season, defeating Centenary, 8-4, Wednesday night.

Senior Craig Trueblood (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) netted three goals, two on the man-up, and an assist all in the first half. The Griffins (5-4, 1-1 CSAC) converted on three man-up goals in the first two quarters alone to build a 5-1 lead at the break.

Senior Nick Coan (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) dished out three assists. His helper on a goal from sophomore Mark Vattilana (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) five minutes into the third quarter, seemed to make it a runaway win.

The Cyclones (2-5, 1-1 CSAC) answered with three-straight goals in the period, all within a three-minute span, turning a five-goal lead into a 6-4 contest entering the fourth.

Goals from freshman Nico Belardo (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) and junior Roy Bakeoven (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) early in the fourth helped to seal the Griffin win.

Cameron Gunn recorded a goal and an assist for Centenary. Conor Nolan, Robert Nuzzolese, and Steve Orsini also scored for the Cyclones.

Bakeoven finished with two goals and an assist while Belardo and junior Mason Risner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) had a goal and an assist each.

GM outshot Centenary for the game, 34-22. Griffin goalie Ryley O'Keefe (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made seven saves. Cyclone keeper Kyle McVay made 12.

Gwynedd-Mercy is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Shenandoah for a CSAC matchup starting at 2 p.m.
