GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Marywood outscored Gwynedd-Mercy 3-0 in the final quarter to go on and defeat the Griffins, 9-8, in a Colonial States Athletic Conference contest.
Gwynedd used three-straight goals late in the third to take an 8-6 lead, but it would be the final tallies of the day. The Griffins had two good looks with seconds remaining in the game, but one was stopped at close range and the other was shot over the crossbar.
Senior
Craig Trueblood (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) paced the offense with a game-high three goals. His two scores in the first quarter, the latter coming with nine seconds remaining helped the Griffins (4-4, 0-1 CSAC) to a 4-2 lead after one.
The Pacers (4-3, 1-0 CSAC) answered in the second with three goals in a row of their own to go ahead, 5-4. Sophomore
Roy Bakeoven (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) answered right before the half on an assist from Trueblood as the teams were locked at 5-5 at the break.
After Marywood took a 6-5 lead in the third, junior
Mason Risner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Trueblood, and Bakeoven all struck gold in the last 5:38 of the quarter to stake GM to an 8-6 lead.
MU's Riley Dobel tied it at 8-8 with 10 minutes left and would net the game-winner just over two minutes later.
GM had chances in the fourth, but could not take advantage of four Pacer penalties and solve goalie Nicholas Cornella as he made six of his 16 saves in the quarter.

Ryley O'Keefe (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) recorded 12 saves in net, as the Griffins outshot, Marywood, 38-31.

Dustan Mangin (Perkasie, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and sophomore
Nathan Pendleton (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) also scored for GM.
Gwynedd-Mercy will look to regroup on Wednesday, when they host Centenary in a conference matchup starting at 7 p.m.
