ARLINGTON, VA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy saw Marymount net two goals in the last 5:34 of the game, helping the Saints post a 7-5 win over the Griffins Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore
Nathan Pendleton (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) had three goals, for the Griffins, raising his team lead to 14 on the season. Senior
Craig Trueblood (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) and junior
Roy Bakeoven (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) also scored for Gwynedd (2-3).
David Huson scored twice while teammate Danny Carson registered a goal and an assist for Marymount (3-2).
The Griffins were never able to get a lead during the contest, but Pendleton's goal early in the fourth quarter tied the game at 5-5. The Saints' Nico Burns put in an unassisted tally at the 5:34 mark and just 1:26 later, another Marymount goal put them up by two.
Gwynedd was successful in killing off two penalties thereafter, but were unable to cut into the deficit.
Marymount led 2-0 in the first before Trueblood and Bakeoven, found the back of the net late in the stanza to knot it up after one quarter of play. Huson had the only goal of the second, giving the Saints a 3-2 lead at halftime.
The Griffins were outshot, 32-23, but each team collected 21 groundballs.
Junior goalie
Ryley O'Keefe (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) had 12 saves for GM. The duo of Ross Fernandez and Derek DiGiovanni combined to make 10.
Gwynedd-Mercy returns home on Saturday, to face off with Albright starting at 1 p.m.
