Cabrini Hands Griffins First CSAC Defeat

RADNOR, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy suffered their first Colonial States Athletic Conference loss of the season in falling to #17 Cabrini, 16-6, on Tuesday.

Sophomore Roy Bakeoven (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and freshman Liam Malley (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) led the Griffins (4-5, 2-1 CSAC) with two goals apiece.

Matt Beigel led the Cavaliers (7-3, 3-0 CSAC) with four goals, all in the second half.

Gwynedd fell behind 6-0 after the first quarter. Later in the second, GM was down 8-2 before rattling off four-straight goals in the last 10 minutes to get it to 8-4 at halftime. But over a 10-minute span in the third and fourth quarters, Cabrini scored five-straight to turn a five-goal lead into double digits.

Juniors Craig Trueblood (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) and Nick Coan (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) also scored for the Griffins.

Brian Hill, Bobby Thorp, Paul Skulski, and Dan Terenick each added two scores for the Cavs.

Cabrini outshot GM, 52-26, keeping goalie Rich Zagari (Hillsborough, N.J./Immaculata) busy. The sophomore goalie made a career-high 19 saves on the day.

The Griffins will look to get back on track when they host Immaculata in CSAC action on Saturday beginning at noon.
