GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Senior Steve Sable (Ivyland, Pa./Holy Ghost) and sophomore Brian Susten (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) each drove in three runs apiece to lead Gwynedd-Mercy to a 10-5 non-league win over Stevens on Tuesday.

The Griffins (6-7-1) batted around in a six-run first inning, and would add two key runs late in the game to extend their unbeaten streak to six games.

Freshman Andrew Schaefer (Penndel, Pa./Conwell-Egan) gave up just one run on nine hits in six innings of work.

After Stevens' Ken Meerendonk hit the first of his two solo home runs in the top of the first, Gwynedd would plate six runs on just two hits, two errors, three walks, and two hit by pitch. Sable's two-run single to left followed by a Todd Budweg (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) RBI single helped reclaim the lead.

Schaefer worked out of a jam in the very next inning as the Ducks would load the bases with one out. After a strikeout, 2B Shane Lynch (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) made the third out as he corraled a potential single through the right side and was able to get it to first to escape any damage.

Gwynedd would score two runs in the sixth for an 8-1 advantage before Stevens countered with three in the seventh and one in the eighth to make it a three-run contest.

Big hits from Susten and Sable in the bottom of the eighth added some insurance. After Susten doubled home Mike Albert (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) with one out, he would come home on Sable's second double on the day to restore a five-run edge.

Meerendonk finished 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI for Stevens (4-15). Teammate Tyler Courter also added three hits.

The Griffins play at #19 Alvernia tomorrow in a rescheduled game from Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m. Live stats are available here: http://sidearmstats.com/alvernia/baseball/index.htm
