GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy's season came to an end as the Griffins were knocked out of the ECAC South Region Tournament in a 58-45 defeat to Alvernia Wednesday evening.

Senior Kristy McGrath (West Chester, Pa./West Chester) had 10 points for GM, the tournament's #3 seed. Junior Brittany Neill (Woodlyn, Pa./Archmere Academy Del.) added seven rebounds and four assists while freshman Taylour Alston (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) corraled five boards and blocked five shots.

Allie Toczylowski and Angela Altemose led the #6-seeded Crusaders (14-13), as each recorded double-doubles. Both had 16 points while Altemose grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds while Toczylowski pulled down 16. AU held a 52-26 rebound edge over the Griffins. Altemose also dished out eight assists.

Gwynedd could not get their footing in the first half, as a bevy of missed shots and turnovers led to 14-2 deficit less than five minutes into the contest. This see-saw action remained intact until the half, as GM would pull within three, but find itself down 10 minutes later. Despite shooting 27% in the first 20 minutes, the Griffins trailed 28-23 at the break.

Despite the offensive troubles, the Griffins used good defense in the second to stay within striking distance. Freshman Jordan Dominic (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) hit the second of her two three-pointers to pull GM within 46-41 with just under six minutes in the contest.

The Crusaders Julie Hahn would then hit two key three-pointers to help re-establish a double-digit lead. She would sink four on the night to finish with 12 points.

Gwynedd finishes the 2010-11 season with a final mark of 17-11. The loss also marks the end of the team's two seniorsL McGrath and Stacey Judge (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert).
