GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy rallied with four fourth-quarter goals to come back and defeat Marymount, 8-6, in non-league action on Wednesday.
Sophomore
Dustin Mangin (Perkasie, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored twice, both man-up goals in the final quarter as the Griffins held the Saints to no scores in the final 15 minutes and converted on three man-up goals as well.
Junior
Nick Coan (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) scored once and added two assists while junior
Craig Trueblood (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) and freshman
Nathan Pendleton (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each had a score and a helper.
Chris Wascak had a game-high three goals for Marymount (1-6).
Pendleton set up junior
Stefan Hetland (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) to account for the only score in the first quarter. Coan would make it 4-2 at the half as his goal with one second in the stanza from a shot five yards outside the box on a last-second desparation chance on net, beat MU keeper Ross Fernandez.
The Saints answered with four unanswered goals in the third to take a 6-4 edge into the fourth.
Sophomore
Alexander Estrin (Greenville, S.C./Riverside) got the rally started by netting his first career goal off the opening faceoff of the fourth quarter.
From there, the Griffins took advantage of Marymount's penalties netting man-up goals from Mangin and Trueblood, the last coming with four minutes left in the game.
Fernandez recorded nine saves for the Saints. The duo of sophomores
Ryley O'Keefe (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and
Rich Zagari (Hillsborough, N.J./Immaculata) combined to make 11 stops as each goalie played one half each. O'Keefe in the first, and Zagari in the second.
Gwynedd (2-4) outshot Marymount, 30-27, while holding a 26-20 groundball edge. The faceoffs went in a 11-of-18 favor for the Griffins.
GM will host the College of Wooster here on Saturday at noon.
