GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Cabrini's Brittany Sandone scored eight of her game-high 18 points in overtime to help lead the Cavaliers over Gwynedd-Mercy by a score of 66-62 Monday night.
After trailing by five to start the game, Gwynedd (13-7, 9-3 CSAC), went on a 15-0 run to take a 17-7 lead with 12:13 remaining in the first half. Both teams had trouble finding their shooting touch during the first 20 minutes. The teams combined to shoot 16-for-73 in the first half, with the Griffins clinging to a 25-19 lead at the break.
The Cavaliers (8-13, 7-5 CSAC) shot a combined 15-for-31 in the second half and overtime including 6-for-11 from downtown. They also knocked down 17 of their 20 free throws for the contest. GM also fared better in the second stanza, going 10-of-25 (40.0%) from the floor.
The Griffins, who trailed by seven with 2:27 to play in regulation, tied the game with 33 seconds left on freshman
Lauren Smith's (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) three-pointer to force the extra period.
Melissa Kudzmas came off the bench for Cabrini to record 12 points, all after halftime. MaryKate McCann and Annie Rivituso added 11 for the Cavaliers.
Senior
Stacy Judge (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) led Gwynedd with 11 points, while Smith was the only other Griffin in double figures with 10 points. Freshman
Taylour Alston (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) finished with seven points off the bench and added game-highs of 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. Alston's blocks were part of a season-high 6 blocked shots for the Griffins.
The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Griffins, who will look to rebound Wednesday when they host Kean in a non-conference game starting at 7 p.m.
