Devines Represent Griffins on AEC Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll

Lancaster, Pa. – (4/14/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University brothers, junior attack Josh Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) and senior goalkeeper Jared Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) both represented the Griffins on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Lacrosse after their play in a 1-1 versus league rivals Immaculata University (L, 7-13 on Apr. 9) and Neumann University (W, 20-11 on Apr. 12). The younger Devine totaled seven goals, four assists, 25 shots, seven ground balls, and two caused turnovers; but most notably, he matched Gwynedd Mercy University’s single-game point record with six goals and four assists in the victory over the Knights. His older brother, went 1-1 with 33 saves, seven ground balls, and three caused turnovers.

Immaculata University graduate attack David Azzarano (Wayne, Pa.) was named the AEC Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, while the AEC Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week title went to Marymount University senior face-off Cameron Glass (Bel Air, Md.). The Devines were joined on the AEC Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll by Immaculata University senior defenseman Aiden Lawrence (Mount Laurel, N.J.), Neumann University senior face-off Jake Methlie (Springfield, Pa.), Marywood University freshman midfielder Luke Ament (Nazareth, Pa.), and Marymount University senior attack Gavin Taylorson (Dundalk, Md.).

Senior attack Richie Hughes (Turnersville, N.J.) scored the first goal of the game with 7:14 remaining in the first quarter; 1-0. He tied it up at 2-2 with 5:05 remaining in the frame and helped keep Gwynedd Mercy University (6-7, 2-1) within two scores of Immaculata University (9-5, 2-0) heading to halftime as he found senior attack Dominic Romania (Phoenixville, Pa.) with 0:46 seconds remaining for the 100th point of his collegiate career; 8-6. Despite the milestone effort, the Mighty Macs controlled the momentum in the second half as they used a 3-0 third quarter to spur them to a 13-7 decision. The Griffin captain totaled 17 saves, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers in a midweek loss (5-7) to the Mighty Macs, while his brother scored one goal (4-3, 11:11, 2QTR) on 11 shots while recovering three ground balls.

Freshman attack David Crespo (Furlong, Pa.) scored the first two Gwynedd Mercy University (6-7, 2-1) goals (13:00, 11:27, 1QTR), but it was the younger Devine who recorded 10 points in Saturday night's 20-11 triumph at Neumann University (3-12, 0-1). Devine matched Crespo's two first-quarter goals with a pair of his own (5:50, 1:44) and located Romania just after the eight-minute mark of the frame (4-2, 7:59). He picked up a second-quarter assist on a goal by junior attack Gunnar Seaman (Worcester, Pa.) (9-3, 10:54) and scored back-to-back Red and Gold goals at 13:03 (11-4) and 11:26 (12-4) of the third quarter, before matching Crespo's recent record and propelling the Griffins to victory with a fourth-quarter assist to Crespo at 14:37 (17-5) and the game's final tally with 3:06 (20-11) remaining. Devine took 14 shots in the contest and additionally provided the Griffins with four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while his older brother earned the win (6-7) with 16 saves, three ground balls, and one caused turnover.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Wednesday, April 16, when they visit Marywood University for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
