Cannon and Gordon Garner AEC Women’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll Mention

Bridget Cannon (Bensalem, Pa.) (7 points; 2 goals, 3 assists) and
Rebecca Gordon (Sicklerville, N.J.) (6 points; 2 goals, 2 assists) were recognized on the most recent
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll. The duo combined for three goals and five assists in the Griffins’ 6-0 victory over Penn State Schuylkill (Oct. 7), while the latter netted a penalty kick opportunity to give the Red and Gold an early edge in a 3-2 conference triumph over Pratt Institute (Oct. 9).
The AEC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week title went to Marymount University senior forward Breanna Harkins (Upland, Calif.), while the Defensive Player of the Week award went to her teammate, junior midfielder Sophia Diggs (West Point, Va.). Cannon and Gordon were joined on the AEC Women’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll by Immaculata University freshman forward Carly Coleman (Springfield, Pa.) and junior goalkeeper Emily Guthier (Sewell, N.J.), Marywood University senior forward Riley Mulherin (Clarks Summit, Pa.) and junior defender Carly Walters (Springfield, Pa.), Neumann University sophomore defender Marisa Nicolucci (Marlton, N.J.) and junior goalkeeper Lexi Navarro (Valley Stream, N.Y.), and Centenary University (N.J.) junior forward Lilianna Flores (Dover, N.J.).
Cannon and Gordon fueled Gwynedd Mercy University’s (5-5-2, 1-1) dominant performance against the Nittany Lions as at least one of the Griffin sophomores had a foot in all six of the Griffin tallies. Gordon found junior midfielder
Natalie Morris (Boyertown, Pa.) for the first goal of the game (1-0, 15:13). She scored the second (2-0, 19:07) on a pass from Cannon, who also located sophomore forward
Ksenia Semenovykh (Warrington, Pa.) for the third Red and Gold goal (3-0, 33:55). In the second half, Cannon scored an unassisted goal (4-0, 61:58) and watched Gordon find senior midfielder
Bethany Beinlich (Forksville, Pa.) for the fifth (5-0, 71:08) before connecting with Gordon for a second time on the sixth Griffin goal (6-0, 80:41).
Gwynedd Mercy University hosted new AEC member, Pratt Institute (3-7, 0-1) on Wednesday night. The Griffins’ hard work in the offensive zone was paid off early as a foul from the Cannoneers gave the Red and Gold a penalty kick opportunity in the 17
th minute; Cannon buried the free strike to put Gwynedd Mercy University up 1-0 (16:43) in an eventual 3-2 final. Beinlich (2-1, 28:41) and Morris (3-2, 74:57) provided the Griffins’ prevailing scores. Cannon recorded four shots and Gordon offered one.
Gwynedd Mercy University looked to bring their momentum in Saturday’s (Oct. 12) contest at Bryn Mawr College. There, the Owls played an impressive 90 minutes of soccer as they held the Griffins to just six shots in a 5-1 final. With 31 seconds left in the match, Beinlich buried her sixth goal of the season thanks to a beautiful pass from sophomore defenseman
Elena DiPrinzio (Warrington, Pa.). Cannon and Gordon recorded a shot apiece.
Gwynedd Mercy University plays its final non-conference game of the season on Monday, October 14, when they host Albright College for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
