Lawless and Filchner Land on AEC Field Hockey Weekly Honor Roll

Morgan Lawless (Bristol, Pa.) were recognized on the first
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Field Hockey Weekly Honor Roll for their play during the opening week of competition. Immaculata University provided both the league’s Player and Defensive Player of the Week in freshman forward Alexis Andrada (Maple Shade, N.J.) and senior goalkeeper Julia Levase (Claymont, Del.), respectively.
Gwynedd Mercy University (1-1) traveled to Misericordia University (0-1) on Friday, August 30, for the first contest of their 2024 season. The Griffins found most of their success after halftime, as they totaled three of their five shots in the third quarter of a 4-0 Cougar victory. Junior forward
Makenzie Reed (Philadelphia, Pa.) offered two (34:06, 39:30) of her team-high three shots in that frame; she put them both on goal, but was denied in each case. Filchner did not record a stat, but Lawless made six saves in the loss (0-1).
The Red and Gold evened their record for the opening weekend with a 3-0 victory over Cedar Crest College (0-2) on Saturday (Aug. 31) afternoon. Filchner got the Griffins going with her first-quarter score (1-0, 6:35) off the feed from freshman forward/midfielder
Leany Santana (Wilmington, Del.). Santana also scored her first collegiate goal as the third Red and Gold tally of the affair; she completed a pass from sophomore midfielder
Lillie Uttenreither (Bel Air, Md.) at 54:33. In between, Reed scored the second Gwynedd Mercy University goal of the 3-0 final, when she finished a pass from sophomore defender
Morgan Hoban (Cinnaminson, N.J.) in the 55th minute (54:33).
