Varilla Milestone Merits AEC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

Kristin Varilla (Lansdale, Pa.) recorded her 200
th career point in a nine-point performance (7 goals, 2 assists) that helped the Griffins to a 21-8 league win over Centenary University (N.J.). The milestone performance came with five ground balls, four draw controls, and a ground ball and earned Varilla a spot on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll.
The AEC Player of the Week title went to Marywood University sophomore midfielder Avery Meighan (Floral Park, N.Y.), while the AEC Defensive Player of the Week honor was given to Marymount University junior defender Abby Dunn (Pasadena, Md.). Cabrini University graduate attack Olivia Little (Springfield, Pa.) was also recognized on the Honor Roll.

Grace Cooney (Doylestown, Pa.) - prior to defeating the Cyclones, 21-8 for the final seed in the AEC Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament. The Red and Gold picked up steam as the contest moved along as a statement 10-1 second quarter triggered the running clock and distanced the Griffins for a 14-5 halftime lead. The second half clock ran continuously for nearly the duration as the Griffins made the difference 13 goals (18-5) by the end of the third quarter and matched Centenary University goal-for-goal in the final frame.
Varilla etched herself further into the Red and Gold's record books as she surpassed 200 career points with her seventh point (14-4, 4:10 2QTR) in a nine-point performance. She scored the Griffins’ first goal of the game (1-0, 12:30 1QTR) with the extra player and added additional first-half tallies with 8:20 (2-3) remaining first quarter as well as with 12:06 (6-4), 11:32 (7-4), 5:27 (12-4), and 4:10 (14-4) remaining in the second; the last stood as her milestone point as she also assisted junior
Hailey Bloom (Margate City, N.J.) on a goal with 5:40 (11-4) left to play in the period.
Gwynedd Mercy University concluded their 2024 season with a 22-12 loss to #3 Marywood University (Apr. 27) in the First Round of the AEC Women’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament. They finish their first season under first-year Head Coach Meghan Sacks with a 1-14 overall mark and a 1-5 league standing.
