Devine Decorated as AEC Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, Seaman Scores Honor Roll

Lancaster, Pa. – (4/15/2024) – Gwynedd Mercy University junior goalkeeper Jared Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) was named the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after recording pair of wins (5-7) in recent Griffins victories over league rivals Marymount University (W, 17-9 on Apr. 10) and Immaculata University (W, 14-10 on Apr. 13). Sophomore attack/midfielder Gunnar Seaman (Worcester, Pa.) joined him on the AEC Weekly Report and an Honor Roll mention.

The AEC Player of the Week title went to Cabrini University sophomore attack Connor Herraiz (Succasunna, N.J.), while additional AEC Weekly Honor Roll recognition was given to Marymount University junior midfielder Cameron Glass (Bel Air, Md.).

Gwynedd Mercy University (5-7, 2-1) opened the week with a Wednesday AEC contest at Marymount University (4-9, 1-2). The Griffins exchanged blows with the Saints in the first quarter, but trailed 4-2 before using a 7-2 second-quarter rush to establish a 9-6 halftime advantage. An 8-3 edge in the second half ensured a Red and Gold victory; 17-9. Sophomore attacker Josh Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) finished with a game-high five goals and a groundball, but Seaman was equally impressive with two goals, two assists, and a ground ball. In goal, Devine’s brother held the Saints at bay with a career-high 26 saves and three ground balls.

Gwynedd Mercy University traveled to Immaculata University (7-5, 1-2) for Saturday’s AEC competition. The Griffins lost the first quarter 3-2, but did not lose another frame in an eventual 14-10 triumph. For the first time this season, the Red and Gold won the faceoff category as they finished 15-of-28 (.536) on the draw and they edge out the Mighty Macs in ground balls 35-33. Devine continued his impressive week 15 saves and a career-high eight ground balls. Meanwhile, Seaman tied his season-highs in four goals and established season-highs in assists (3) and points (7). He also recovered a ground ball.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Wednesday, April 17, when they host Marywood University for a 7:00 p.m. contest at the Athletic Complex.
