Third Double-Double Delivered Spencer Third AEC Men’s Basketball Weekly Accolade
Lancaster, Pa. – (12/13/2021) – Graduate forward Donaven Spencer (Sicklerville, N.J.) made his third appearance of the season on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Basketball Weekly Report. Spencer garnered his second Honor Roll mention with 9.0 points per game (PPG), 8.5 rebounds per game (RPG), five assists, a block, and two steals in Gwynedd Mercy University wins over Penn State Brandywine (W, 89-56 on Dec. 6) and Cairn University (83-70 on Dec. 11).
Gwynedd Mercy University (7-2) improved a 38-30 halftime lead into an 89-56 triumph with suffocating defense as the Griffins turned Penn State Brandywine (2-8) over 28 times in this evening's affair. The extra possessions began to take their toll in the second half, where Gwynedd Mercy University saw a dozen (12) different Griffins score in a total team effort. Spencer was one of them as he scored six points in excess of six rebounds, a block, and a steal.
Sophomore guard Aziz Parker (Westhampton, N.J.) and Spencer provided the prefect combination of perimeter and paint play to pace Cairn University (6-3) to a 48-35 (0:02) halftime spread and an eventual 83-70 (0:58) victory. Parker was 4-of-7 (.571) from long range and 6-of-6 (1.000) from the free throw line in a 20-point effort that came with two rebounds, an assist, a block, and two steals. Meanwhile, Spencer finished with his third double-double of the season; a 12-point and 11-rebound effort that came with a team-high five assists and a steal.
Gwynedd Mercy University plays next on Friday, December 17, when they visit Bryn Athyn College for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
