Kesselman Collects AEC Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week Award
 
Lancaster, Pa. – (11/14/2023) – Gwynedd Mercy University graduate forward Sydney Kesselman (Philadelphia, Pa.) totaled 24 rebounds, 10 blocks, and four steals during a 3-0 opening week versus King’s College (PA) (W, 61-56 on Nov. 8), Penn State Berks (W, 91-33 on Nov. 10), and Penn State Abington (W, 90-63 on Nov. 11). Her play in the paint earned her the first Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season. AEC Player of the Week recognition went to Neumann University junior guard Lauren Klieber (Malvern, Pa.), while Weekly Honor Roll mentions were given to her teammate; fifth-year forward Terea Tourk (Newark, Del.), Centenary University (PA) freshman forward Vatijah Davis (Poconos, Pa.), Marymount University senior guard Chandler Eddleton (Richmond, Va.), and Immaculata University senior forward Tessa Liberatosscioli (Malvern, Pa.).
 
Gwynedd Mercy University (3-0) kicked off their 2023-2024 season at the Griffin Complex taking on King's College (Pa.) (0-1). Both teams met in the season opener the previous season with the Monarchs playing host and the Griffins securing a dominant 75-50 victory. Kesselman got her feet under her with two points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
 
Over the weekend, Gwynedd Mercy University played host to Penn State Berks (0-2), Penn State Abington (0-2), and Widener University (2-0) for the annual Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament. The Red and Gold opened the schedule with a Friday evening tip-off versus Penn State Berks; right from the jump the game was all Griffins as they took the contest by an eventual 91-33 final. Both senior guard Lynzie Eggers (Washington Township, N.J.) and sophomore guard Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.) finished with a game-high 16 points each; the later finished with her first double-double of her collegiate career with ten rebounds, one assist, one steal, and two blocks. Kesselman was dominate in the paint defensively with seven blocks and a steal. She also recorded 11 rebounds and five points.

The following day, on Saturday, November 11, Gwynedd Mercy University played the final game of the annual Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament hosting Penn State Abington (0-2). The Griffins improved their tournament standing to 2-0 with a 90-63 win over the Nittany Lions. Eggers was two points shy of tying a career-high in points as she finished today 11-of-23 (.478) from the field with 30 points. Kesselman finished the affair with nine points, nine rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and a pair of steals.
 
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Wednesday, November 15, when they visit Arcadia University for a 6:00 p.m. Battle of 309 tip-off.
