Varilla Repeats on AEC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll

Kristin Varilla (Lansdale, Pa.) repeated on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll with 11 points (9 goals, 2 assists), two ground balls, three draw controls, and a caused turnover in a
1-1 week versus Bryn Mawr College (L, 5-15 on Mar. 9) and Bryn Athyn College (W, 15-7 on Mar. 11). Varilla also recorded her 100
th career point versus the Owls, locating sophomore attack
Hailey Bloom (Margate City, N.J.) for the Griffins’ fourth score (11-4, 2:42 3QTR) of the affair.
Gwynedd Mercy University (4-3) found themselves down 7-0 before getting on the scoreboard against Bryn Mawr College (3-1); 7-1 (11:07 2QTR). Varilla scored the second Griffin goal (8-2, 0:40 2QTR) just before the close of the quarter. She added her 100
th career point in the second half, when she targeted Bloom for the Gwynedd Mercy University’s fourth goal. Her 101
st career point came in the fourth quarter as she deposited a free position shot with 8:04 (14-5) remaining in the contest. Varilla finished the game with three points (2 goals, assist) and six shots.
The Griffins rebounded versus Bryn Athyn College (0-1), building a 7-0 lead before the visitors got on the scoreboard; 7-1 (4:27 1QTR). Varilla recorded the first four Gwynedd Mercy University scores (11:36, 8:59, 5:33, 14:44) and assisted on the seventh (7-0, 6:54 2QTR) en route to a 7-1 halftime advantage. In the second half, the Lions trimmed the difference to five goals (10-5, 0:30) before the Griffins cemented their victory with a 5-2 fourth-quarter spread; 15-7 (2:12 4QTR). Varilla finished the game with eight points (7 goals, assist), two ground balls, and a caused turnover.
Gwynedd Mercy University will be back in action on Wednesday, March 22, when they travel to Hood College for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
