Lancaster, Pa. – (9/8/2026) – Junior midfielder Anna Nicosia (Columbus, N.J.) claimed the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women's Soccer Player of the Week award with three points (1 goal, 1 assist) in the Griffins' 2-0 victory over Penn State Brandywine (Sept. 4). Meanwhile, A 2-0 start and five saves earned Gwynedd Mercy University sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Davis (Riverside, N.J.) the AEC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week title. The Griffin netminder made two saves in the first half of a 1-0 (72:14) win over Wilson College (Sept. 1) and recorded three more in a shutout victory versus Penn State Brandywine (Sept. 4) just three days later; she earned the win (2-0) in both circumstances. Nicosia totaled six shots for the week as she put two on-goal in a 1-0 (72:14) win over Wilson College (Sept. 1) and took four more in the win over the Nittany Lions.
 
Davis and Nicosia were accompanied on the report by Immaculata University junior goalkeeper Addi Husenica (Toms River, N.J.), who earned an Honor Roll mention.
 
Gwynedd Mercy University (2-0) opened the 2026 campaign on a winning note, using a first-half goal (1-0, 23:56) from sophomore forward Michelina Soroka (Hatboro, Pa.) and a strong performance from the Griffin backfield to secure a 1-0 victory over Wilson College (0-1). Nicosia put a shot on-goal in both the 16th (15:16) and 51st (50:54) minutes, while Davis recorded two saves (11:00, 30:52) in the opening 45:00.
 
The Red and Gold continued its strong start with goals from junior midfielder Casey Thomas (Philadelphia, Pa.) (1-0, 26:05) and Nicosia (2-0, 62:11) giving Davis plenty of wiggle room in a 2-0 win over Penn State Brandywine (1-1). In the 27th minute, Nicosia located a recently enter Thomas for the first Griffin goal of the game. She provided an insurance short of her own in the 63rd minute, taking the pressure off Davis in a contest that saw Gwynedd Mercy University own a 16-5 shot advantage and an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.
 
Gwynedd Mercy University is back in action on Tuesday, September 8, when they travel to Ursinus College for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
