true Reading, Pa. – (9/12/2026) – The Gwynedd Mercy University (2-2) women's soccer team continued its 2026 non-conference schedule Saturday afternoon with a road contest against Penn State Berks (2-2), falling 6-0.
Griffin Highlights:
- Gwynedd Mercy University sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Davis (Riverside, N.J.) was tested early and responded with several key saves. Davis made a crucial save 39 seconds into the contest and later denied two Nittany Lions as the Griffins worked to withstand the early Penn State Berks pressure. The Griffin goalkeeper finished the first half with six saves, helping Gwynedd Mercy carry a 2-0 deficit into halftime.
- The Griffins showed increased offensive pressure following the break. Junior midfielder Anna Nicosia (Columbus, N.J.) recorded Gwynedd Mercy's first shot of the afternoon at 51:20.
- Gwynedd Mercy continued pushing forward and produced its strongest offensive stretch of the match midway through the second half. Senior midfielder Bridget Cannon (Bensalem, Pa.) registered an attempt in the 63rd minute before junior defender Arianna Catanzariti (Blackwood, N.J.) sent another opportunity just wide. That pressure also resulted in three consecutive Griffin corner kicks in less than two minutes, with Gwynedd Mercy eventually finishing the half with four corners.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Chloe Pennings (Williamsport, Pa.) made her collegiate debut entering in goal for Davis at 59:49 and contributed three saves over the final 30 minutes. Pennings made her first stop in the 76th minute and added two more saves in the closing stages. Davis and Pennings combined for nine saves in the contest.
- Gwynedd Mercy finished with five shots, two shots on goal, and four corner kicks, with all five shots and all four corners coming during a more productive second half.
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action on Wednesday, September 16, when the team hosts Cedar Crest College with a scheduled 7:00 p.m. start.
